    Mysterious Shrimp Deaths

Right guys as in? Are Astreas okay? That's the easiest to find around here.

Well I had a Skunk Cleaner Shrimp when I first set-up my tank, it died after a bad molt (or not) about 2 months after I got it. :(

I suspect too that it was my Damsel bullying him when he was still soft and vulnerable.

Then I got a Fire Shrimp after setting up my current tank, it died too, after only a week. I guess it could've died of old age, because it was pretty huge when I got it. Didn't realize how huge it was until I put it into my tank.

THEN, I got another Skunk Cleaner Shrimp, pretty small one. Died (AGAIN) after a few days. I did my weekly water change in the morning, and at night, it was dead.

I don't know if it's my fish hurting the shrimp, but my water quality seems okay (besides the algae).

So for now, my tank is shrimp-less. Don't think I'll be adding any more shrimps until I figure out what's going on. :(

    RIP, innocent lives lost.

PS. Love your picture, is the mandarin yours? Looks awesome! ;)

yes the mandarin is mine... thank you!

the astreas will not go on the sand, typically they stick to the glass and rocks. I would recommend some large nassarious or some type of conch like a fighting conch. There are chemical treatments that exist for cyanno (the name has slipped my mind).

and as for your shrimp... They are very hard to acclimate but after that they are fairly hardy. They are quite sensitive to changes in salinity though. I usually acclimate my shrimp for about 2-3 hours to make sure they will be fine with all the water changes. They dont really take care of anything on your sand bed other than loose particles of food that may have settled

It's hard to find nassarius snails here, so I just got myself another um, I'm not sure what snail it is, but its shell is like an astreas' but it has red and white swirly stripes. Kinda like Strawberry Sundae. :p

My first shrimp was doing good for almost 2 months, so I don't think it's the acclimation problem. It could be possible for them to be bullied by fish right?

Hmm, posted a new picture of them under the same light in my previous post.

I kinda prefer how they used to look. :(

So you reckon it's just the lighting changing the colour of the zoas?

Or could it be that the water in my tank is too hot? I don't use a chiller and the water does get pretty warm in the afternoon, haven't checked the exact temperature though. My Green Star Polyps seem to be bleaching too, and they're getting tinier and tinier.

ok i have a question. im very new to the hobby and im trying to fugure out what lighting to get and you have alot of nice stuff growing under just t5's. most of witch i thought you need metal halides to grow. you are just using t5's correct? because i looked up most of the stuff you have growing such as this stuff Saltwater Aquarium Corals for Marine Reef Aquariums: Nano Polyp Pack and it says Moderate to High lighting. wouldn't that be metal halide?
