Well ill make it short... i used to do fresh water alot and grew many plants under many cheap bulbs and @ Lowes ....Yes the uber fuge bulb store lol.

Its NOT 6500K ...It will work...Plants actually like this Screw in PC type bulb..

For any of you using the 6500K bulb.. You may wanta try this... Gem

Has anyone tried the 3500K Bright white with hint of blue..This is what i used over my Fresh water . I had Plants at one time,,my texas destryed them..

This bulb let em grow right back nicely...Unfortunatly i have no pic with plants because i decided to not buy them for my fishes amusement..

So ill let you see what it looks like compared to a 6500K

The Box to look for @ Lowes is Light Blue not Dark Blue..This bulb actually resembles a 12k not 3500K.

Heres an example of one 13w No reflector(60watt in normal bulb)
3500K. A reflector will be even more appealing on this bulb and plants Algee's like it to.

I really dont care for yellow PC bulbs even if there hidden in a cave . I have found the 3500K seems to be alot brighter and does not even look light 3500K but more so a 12K.

So if you need a bulb and go to Lowes try one out.. You just may like it.
