    Hello forum,

i'm new to this forum, always been a freshwater aquarists but now i'm building my first saltwater setup.

my current tank is an aqueon 36 gal bow front, the tank is all good but the hood/lighting that comes with the kit is not.

i was wondering if anyone got the versa-top all glass model for this tank, and if it did infact fit perfect on it..

i dont want to go ahead and buy this and end up having a hard time putting it all together, as i'm not sure how that hood is designed as far as "pre cut" area for filters/skimmer..etc
does it come with places already cut or do you have to cut the back side of it for the hang-ons?

too many questions, but the hood is the only thing that seems to give me headaches these days lol.

    Thanks in advance.

You're in luck, my parents just got that exact tank and I had to set it all up for them. They got the glass cover for it, against my better judgement. The glass fits perfect and is hinged so the part that is bowed on the front lifts up. There is a strip along the entire back that the glass doesn't cover for filters and such. I would advise against covering the top with the glass just because it hinders gas exchange.

That's what I was thinking too. Salt water has less dissolved oxygen in it then fresh water, thus one big reason salt water tanks need to be stocked lighter then freshwater tanks. If you plan on using a sump and skimmer, you shouldn't have many problems as they airate the water very well. However, if you don't plan on using either, you may want to just leave the top open, or use a netting to cover it.

    Thanks for your response/info,

yeah i heard about the aeration issue and also the "cooling" issue "for lights to sit directly on hood" that might be associated with covering the full hood, but i'm thinking about setting up the lights so they hang from the ceiling in a small distance away from the tank, to keep them cooled and less evaporation hopefully,

currently, i'm not running the skimmer as the tank is still cycling "almost over", once the tank has cycled i'll run the protein skimmer, with the filters "two eheim ecco canisters" and the powers heads sitting near to surface , along with skimmer "to be working later", i'm thinking i have good aeration going on there, also since i'm not going to put much fish in there "thinking about 2-4 maximum smaller ones".

but yeah i'll think more about getting that hood or not, and see if it'd work fine as far as aeration...

    thanks again.
