So I just upgraded my lighting for my 29g tank (30"L 18"H) to a 150W MH. As suspected, it is putting out a good amount of heat. It will be fine for winter time, but will be wayyy to hott for summer. I figure I will just switch it out now before I fill my tank with corals. I am mostly seeing 36" T5 fixtures. I was thinking of getting a 4-6 light fixture, and was wondering if anyone has put a 36" light over their 30" tank? Aside from having some light spill out of the tank, this wouldn't be a problem would it? In a few years I may upgrade to a 40 breeder, so this light fixture would be perfect for it...

Thanks for any input! As always, its greatly appreciated!

I have done something similar on previous occasions
30 inch tanks are not as well catered for in terms of light units as the 36 inch tanks are

the lamps themselves dont extend right to the end of the fisture anyway - I think they are just over 34 inches to fit in a 36 inch fixture
so whikst the canopy or hood may overlap your tank by 3 inches either side, you wont get 3 inches of light bleed at both ends
