    Welcome to 3reef.

Buy whatever gives you the most wattage. You don't need to light to the glass.

Buy 2 160W if you have the cash.

I would suggest you get either 2x 36" lights or 2-3x 20" lights, depending on your livestock/corals. and whichever is more economical for your situation, which will probably be the 2x on the 36" You could use high-output T5's or metal halides. Do you have a reef/would like to set up one in the near future or do you have a FOWL(fish-only-with-live rock)?

I am not comfortable with any LED lighting yet. I am waiting for enough guinea pigs to have successful tanks before I pull the trigger and purchase.

For that deep of a tank I would NOT suggest anything under a 160w fixture (for your width I'd get 2)

I agree with this. The current LED fixtures on the market are almost all general-purpose lighting and will not support a reef aquarium all that well.

a 6x39w T5HO unit will be very effective, less heat than the MH and will penetrate well to the sand

If your 150w then the t5s will definetly not be enough lighting. unless you get a 8 bulb fixture.
