I am overstocked and over fed. Still had issues that I believe were saturated O2 deficiency related.

 

yes, i would imagine that if you are already overstocked with fish, adding bio-pellets could cause a problem with a lack of oxygen.

 

i was and have always been over stocked, read up they will tell you feed feed feed and over stocked helps with issues...well it doesn't.

Not true. Marc Leveson is overstocked and over feeds and has no issues with oxygen. But of course his system dwarfs mine.

I believe it's the size of the system that effects the way oxygen is impacted when using pellets not the stocking.

My skimmer runs 24/7, the surface tension is broke in more than six areas of my complete system.

The facts are that no one knows for sure what will happen when solid carbon is used. Some have success, some completely crash their systems.

 

I find it hard to believe that stocking doesn't effect the oxygen available. I have read people suggest over feeding but not over stocking.

 

I have just taken my BP's offline. In the last few days all my chalices are shriveling up and dieing. My lobo's are not extending to there potential and one is discolored and not extending feeding tentacles. I am also losing one acan. My other corals seem to be looking just fine and I cannot rule out other things as the cause. I will keep you all updated as to what happens to my corals.

 

i suggest anyone who insists on running pellets should be testing the oxygen in the tank often. there is a test kit for this. wish i had known before i lost the fish. i might have caught it before it was to late for those fish. i will never run pellets again.

Vinny sorry for your losses, but know that by starting this thread maybe you have saved others corals and fish. since they are surly more informed if they read threw the thread.

 

Thanks Pink. Like I said I cannot rule out other factors as of yet so I am just going to keep an eye on everything and see if removing the pellets alone will help. I have not noticed any fish problems but I am understocked compared to most others.

 

Would be interesting to get a ORP value for these tanks, both at night and during the day.

 

Agree; I was just thinking perhaps running ozone might solve the issues some people have. Then you chime in with this.
