Hey everyone - I currently have a paired set of clowns (1male 1female) and they are great together. (True perc's) was trying to think if it would be possible to get a pair of black clowns (mated pair of the black clowns - I forget there real name) to add to the tank.. What are your thoughts? I would TRY and set them up one there own side of the tank. They would be going in a 90 gal. The two pre-established clowns stick to one side of the tank.

Picked up a pair of black clowns yesterday.. A little turmoil at first - the original pair (percs) were VERY intimidated and swam away. A few hours later the original pair must have been like, "Wait - we were here first!!" And started handing out free beatings (lol not to bad). Now they are both respectively living on there side of the tank. Just as I had hoped!

Think I could add one more young one to a 65 gal. tank..??
All the fish I have is 2 clowns, and a salefin tang..

I found some clowns that have a color morf.. The band at the head go's all the way around, 2nd band. just gos across the back some, and 3rd band is just a dot..
I would like to have one more or 2, they young.. strange but nice looking..

    Thanks, Larry

Adding one more clown will probably result in one getting harrassed. One will dominate and become the female, the other two will fight it out to become the sexual male and the other will just be on the bottom end of the pecking order and will be outcasted from the pair. Maybe I'm wrong, I read something like that in clownfish behavior.

I agree - I wouldn't get just ONE more... I think the clowns and most animals are more social/emotion capable than people give them credit for. I think the fish in my tank (2 new black clowns) even though they are getting beat up will find comfort with each other as at first they split up right away but once they got picked on a bit haven't left each others side. Kind of amazing actually. Might be crowded for 4 though. My clowns (the original pair) hangout in one spot, I figure the other 2 clowns will figure out that they need to stay away from that spot and pair up.

I have 4 clowns. One set has paired up and happy. One died years ago and I felt bad that the 3rd was always being shunned to the back or side of rocks in tank. Purchased the 4th one and guess what.........#3 is hanging with couple and the 4th is now the low man and stuck in back of the tank.

Be happy with the two. My #4 will come out and they hang if scared (new fish, or new tank) but he is always by himself on a regular basis. That was in a 72 gallon reef/fish tank that they've been in for 3 years (mama has been there for 7-8 years). Moved them to a 120, hopefully he'll pair up with 3rd, but won't count on it.
