I am looking forward to when I move and am able to set up my 40B, and would like to purchase equipment in advance so I can get right to it once I move. So can you fine people please make suggestions for me? I want to be able to grow anything. Currently I own one ReefBreeders value fixture and it was able to grow anything in my 29 and 20 gallon tanks. So please tell me what you consider THE BEST, regardless of price, but also what fixture you consider the best value, ie, should I buy another reeferbreeder and hang them both, or upgrade altogether? thanks!

I will say up front that I am not a big DIY person when it comes to electronics - so I went with the AI SOL lights for my 250. I have 4 over the tank and can grow anything - at least I have been able to grow anything I have tried so far (soft,sps,lps,etc.). I have had them for well over a year now and no complaints at all. They are reliable, put off a nice light, and easy to use. The newer vega lights from AI look even better with a more advanced light spectrum. So if I were in you situation, I would go with that. On a 40B you could probably get away with just one unit.

As far as the BEST fixture i have found, is the Aquatic Life led XS -UV reef. I really like how customizable the programing is and it has enough power to promote sps growth. Now it is very pricey. I don't have any experience with any of the more value friendly units, so i will not be pointing out any of those myself.

I do not know if you are looking for LED or not but I also have a 40B and currently run 2 Kessil 150s. If I was looking to change at least 2 bulbs every six months and money was no option, I would go with a 6X36" Ati fixture.

My buddy has the 32" reefbreeders fixture on his 40b and it looks pretty nice. If money was no object I would go with a Ati fixture like mentioned above, the 6x24 would be plenty unless your only keeping sps then the 6x39 would be better.

Don't get the Vegas idk what is wrong with them but they just don't seem to do as well as the sols and hydra's do from the ai lineup when it comes to sps, We have now took all the sps out of our Vega display tank and moved them to the radion display, If money isn't an issue and you want a light that you never have to question then go radion pro for sure, If your looking for something a little cheaper then go with a couple hydra's there great lights but you would need 2 of the standard hydra's.

Hamilton sells a nice halide/T5 unit. I can grow anything with my halides. Depends on what you want really. I run led on my 125 and I prefer the look of my halides. It produces heat for sure but I never noticed an increase on my electric bill. With tecnology now there's a light fixyure that will fit your needs. Good luck.

Why not just stick with the reef breeders value fixture ? It should be plenty for your 40b. I have the Evergrow 120w full spectrum hanging over my 40b and it covers fine. Blues at 80% and whites and full spectrum at 50%. [IMG]

I too have used the Reef Breeders in the past and just switched over to the ReefRadiance Dm-55e for my 44 corner. The customer service is great with them and I have no complaints for the Reef Breeders but just like the outer section of lights on the Dm's now have 120 optics to cover more space in my tank. Rick is a great guy to deal with and can answer any questions should you have any. The cost is a little less than the RB's and I think he has a special still if you purchase a fixture form he will throw in a free refugium led bulb if you just pay for the shipping. Hope this helps as I really enjoy my new lights.
