Hello Everyone, I have been working on this build for a little while now. I have a lot of the tank sorted. but still have a lot to work on.
Going to need some help from you guys on overflow designs and things like that so i figured i would show you all what I'm working with.

Its a 40 gallon breeder with a 20 long sump.
Tank will be laid out peninsula style with all my overflow and returns on the short end.
I will be building my own overflow box and either doing Herbie or Beananimal overflow design.
Tank will have a 24 LED Light that I'm building
    Controlled with Reefkeeper
Skimmer in sump, small algae refugium. and return pump in sump
Might make it a media rack instead of refugium and have a small frag rack in sump. Still up in the air

Not sure what I'm missing or how to set the heights of the overflows but hopefully someone can help me out
    Thanks for looking!

    Hope you guys like.

Looks nice, to bad I'm not carpentry friendly. If I try anything like that it looks like a disaster! But I can't wait to see this build!!

Great start, and I'd go with the Bean (in fact I am w/both my tanks, as was planned from nearly the beginning of my SW adventure. I'll be drilling as soon s my order arrives).

    Good luck.

thanks for the kind words guys, bean i feel is the way im going to go also, i just dont understand how high to make the pipes and things like that in the overflow.

i have been reading so many articles on it, it has been spinning my head around.

Ben had the bottom of his down-turned pipeswithin a hlf inch of the bottom of the box. It is also reccommedned to raise the bank "open"pipe 1/4" or so to help the full siphon start/purge air faster.
i've decided to drill, get the needed parts then decide on what size the box will be.

The other way around is better.
the full siphon need be only 1" the whole way, since the flow rate of a 1" tube @ full siphon w/a submerged end is 2200 + gph w/a 4ft fall. The open channel you can go up to 1.5" to be sure there is plenty of air in the center for the water to silently cascade down/cling to the pipe walls.

If you use 1.5" on the full siphon it will have a hard time purging air @full lower flow rates, and since it is for a 40gal tank Imd say your flow rate through your sump wont be terribly high, especially since thesystem that Bean originally designed it for is a 90 gal.

Corrected typos from phone "helping" me...grrrrr

Yes. I will be using 1"the the whole way on the full siphon for my 46 Kand possibly the other 2 pipes as well), but will do the 1"the bulkhead to 1.5" for the 113water gal tank.
