    Good Afternoon Everyone,

This is my first post in this forum. I original kept nano aquariums and I have been a frequent member of the 'nano-reef.com' website. They are limited on information about larger tanks so I decided to come here and get some ideas about my 40 Breeder that I am setting up and see if I can get more advice.

I have been looking into fish and my stock list may become a debate due to one fish. I have done my research on that particular fish and I am prepared to do what is needed to keep it happy so aside from creating drama I just want to know if this stocking list would work. I may be one fish over capacity but that is why I am here.

    2 x Percula Clownfish
    2 x Blue Reef Chromis
    1 x ORA Green Mandarin
    1 x Midas Blenny
    1 x Yellow Clown Goby
    1 x Firefish

I have done plenty of research on the Green Mandarin and I plan to seed the tank for a couple months prior to actually purchasing him. I am also planning on buying one from ORA and paying the extra money since they are already trained to eat a majority of the prepared foods that are available. I am also currently keeping my Yellow Clown Goby in a tank with my two Percula Clownfish but I was originally planning on adding him into a 1.5 gallon zoanthid tank I have setup. Although he has gotten along really well with the two clowns and I am debating on keeping him with them or not. I know this is a lot to read but I would really appreciate whatever insight you have to offer.

welcome to 3reef! Glad you knew what you were gonna hear about the mandarin! I did the same! Spent a ton of money seeding the tank multiple times for a long time! That being said, do you have a fuge for the pods to breed in?

2 other things to think about! If your clowns and chromis both pair up, their gonna take that whole tank as their territory! (maybe, also i've heard to keep chromis in odd numbers, might want to read into that!)

    And the blenny
This blenny will appreciate a minimum tank of 30 gallons or larger with numerous rocks on which to perch. Sometimes, the Midas Blenny will vex small planktivores and has been known to nip at firefish and gobies. Larger tanks are advantageous as many of the Midas Blenny's aggressive behavior traits seem to relate to a confining tank situation.
    From LA

And the firefish may have trouble competing for food!

just some food for thought! Welcome to 3reef!

I will be setting up a 20 High as a sump and will have a refugium area to seed Copepods. The fish that I am sold on are as follows:

2 x Percula Clownfish (Currently Own)
1 x Yellow Clown Goby (Currently Own)
    1 x ORA Green Mandarin

I picked the Chromis because I know they are constant swimmers and aside from the clowns the others will hide within the rock work. I also really want some colors so I am open to suggestions.

    Setup will be as follows:

    40 Breeder (Main Display)
    20 High (Sump)
    Overflow (Bottom Left)
    Return (Bottom Right)
    MP10 (Opposing side of Return)
    AI Nano Super Blue (2)
    Protein Skimmer & Refugium (Sump)

Nice setup, you may be fine with what you originally had, i'd just maybe research about the chromis a bit, they are eventful fun fish to watch though! i know I read somewhere about keeping them in add numbers!

    Are your clowns a pair?

i don't know much about firefish, other than they seem timid, and the rest of those fish, not so much!

Nice set up though! check ebay for some cheap seeded chaeto for your fuge! LA has great seeded chaeto, but ya pay for it!

The clowns are still very young. I got them both for a total of $10 at a coral show in Orlando. They are about the size of a penny. They currently own the 6 gallon tank they are in now and do just fine but I know an upgrade is need which is why I am doing so. I am assuming they are still super young since they haven't hosted anything yet. They do have two or three spots they sleep in but they don't hold a specific territory yet. I will do some more research on the Chromis and most likely remove the Firefish.

Yeah, I am hoping to get them to host something I want and not a random mag float or something. I plan to get a small leather coral or maybe a smaller anemone but the anemone would have to wait till the tank establishes a bit more.
