I'm able to get a 40 breeder for a sump that's been used to house a bearded dragon for the past year cheap. Will this cause any issues in the reef? If anyone has done this I would appreciate feedback. I would like to know what would be the appropriate way to clean this, I was thinking of letting it soak in a ton of bleach.

I have one that I have bearded dragons in. That tank is built different than my 40g breeder aquarium. I will hold water for a little while, but it will bust eventually. If the tank is an aquarium and not a terrarium, then just check the silicone if it holds water.

If it is indeed a tank designed for reptiles (I believe they are called critter keepers?) then they are made with thinner glass than aquariums and not safe to hold water

I successfully converted my 40 gallon breeder terrarium into a 40 gallon tank. I measured the glass thickness and compared it to my 40gallon breeder fish tank and it was the same. Also I don't know if its a good idea to clean it with bleach. If you leave any residue, it will kill everything. The best way to clean it is with a mixture of white vinegar, and salt(as an abrasive).

Incorrect. The terrarium breader tanks are now made with the same glass ten gallon tanks are made with. Normal breaders are made with slightly thicker glass. As for cleaning with bleach, there is no residue left over. Bleach evaporates. I have cleaned many tanks as well as bleached lots of rock with no issues. All you have to do is fill the tank up after draining the bleach water. Then drain the fresh water. Let sit for three days and its just like new. Vinegar also does a great job like you suggested. If you are worried about the bleach, use the qouted method. I always suggested doing things the way you feel safe. Peace of mind is priceless.

As far as I know it was a new tank purchsed last year a 40g breeder. What should I be looking for as far as glass thickness?

The glass on my 40b is in between 3/16 - 1/4 inch.
