im getting a new tank, 40 gallon breeder with 15 gal sump, im having trouble deciding on what kind of flow im wanting to get

i had an idea of doing this, looking for some advice to how this will work if good or not, i like wavemaker style powerheads because the overall health of the reef definitely benefits from the turbulent flow

although i dont have the money to buy something like an mp40

so im thinking of getting this,
Aquarium Systems Naturalwave Multi-Cycle Pump Timer (Aq. Systems)

    wave timer used here with
3 maxi-jet pro 600's on them on seperate timers

2 of them on opposite sides of the tank running on 20 second intervals with the 3rd in the center facing foward on a longer 45sec interval.

how would this work in getting good flow etc?

that would be 2250 gph total but cut down in half for the pumps being on half the time, so im looking at 25-30x turnover per hour it seems for the 40gallon, as i only want softies / lps would this be sufficient??

    thanks for any advice

Your flow would be sufficient for softies and LPS; however, I highly recommend that you use Hydor Koralia powerheads; while MaxiJets are fine for continuous-use applications, they don't last long on wavemaker setups.

ok thanks for the good advice, my friend is telling me to stay away from external wavemakers in general because they just make the powerheads die very quickly..any advice on this?

if i dont go with a wave maker, what would be a better setup for powerheads?

    3 x 550 koralia evo's
    or
    2x 750 koralia evo's

looking to get good flow and limited dead spots because in my current tank (nano 10g) there is quite a few dead spots and it is very irritating, dont want this issue with my new 40b im building

Your friend probably has experience with the MaxiJets or an equivalent. The Koralia units will be just fine with the wavemaker.

So what would be a good setup of koralias on like a jbj ocean pulse or a wave strip? 2x 1050s or 3x 750s maybe? Looking for around 30x flow rate

The 3 750s set up the way you stated in your original post would provide the more random flow and help prevent dead zones.

Ok so 3 750 evos on either the jbj ocean pulse or natural wave timer strip

i decided to skip the wavemaker for now, bought two koralia evo 550's that ill have running all the time along with the 450gph return pump, ill see how the tank does with flow by testing it with the old cloth in the tank thing to see if it stays suspended, if need more flow i have some more lower power koralia's i will add to it where needed, have a 270 and 400 sitting here as well
