Question for the group: I will be buying one major item every 2 weeks from this point on. The things I have left are:

    • Skimmer
    • Powerhead (MP10)
    • Light
    • Powerhead 2 (MP10)
    • Controller

In what order do you think I should pick these things up?

Right now the tank is cycling with about 400GPH through the sump, and an MJ900 for circulation, as well as a carbon reactor powered by an MJ1200

Anyone? I guess the more relevant question is: skimmer or first powerhead this week? And after the skimmer and powerhead, should I get a second powerhead or light? I wouldn't want to add coral if there isnt going to be enough flow, and i'm really only looking to go SPS initially.

I'll probably add the first fish in about 2 weeks once I'm through this fishless cycle.

Flow is the most important imo. You can do without a skimmer for some time, especially if your bioload is low. Water changes will handle the job while not having a skimmer. Imo mp10 first, along with a light. Mainly BC I can look at a tank with just live rock and be fascinated. Really up to though...

Update: picked up an Avast Marine CS1 Skimmer Kit w/Sicce PSK-1000 pump. Going to run an MJ900 as my recirculating pump.

I know it's big, but I don't see a compelling reason to get something like an NWB-110 or an SWC Extreme 120 when I can get this for the same price and have it perform like a bubble king.

Build thread coming this weekend (for skimmer).

Built the Avast CS1 over the past 2 days (glue needed time to cure) and added it to the sump today. With a PSK-1000 pulling 1100LPH of air and an MJ900 for recirculation, this is about the biggest skimmer that can be fit in an e-shopps rs-75 sump. Certainly overkill, but will get the job done.

The cycle is complete as of Friday, so I added some snails (50 dwarf ceriths, 20 nassarius, 20 florida ceriths, and 15 nerites).

Next step: powerheads and Radion w/DIY canopy
