Sounds fine. You should leave the rocks on the bottom and add the sand around them. That will help avoid rock slides and buried livestock. After you get the sand in you may want to add a piece of raw shrimp to get a good cycle going.

Looking good. You want to switch stands with me? I made the mistake of getting a stand that has no room for a sump. I set it up freshwater when I bought it and had never even heard of a sump at that time.

Got my sand in the mail today! ;D I pulled all my rocks out and got them all stacked the way I like them. Tried to make as many caves, tunnels, and hiding spots as I could with what I had. Then I added my sand! 45 lbs. of sand went a lot farther than I thought it would. 8) Tossed a piece of shrimp in the tank and now I'm waiting for it to cycle.

Yeah, based on online calculators it looks like i'm going to need 25-30 pounds of sand to make a 1" bed in my 46 bow so I was surprised to see you get 45. Anyway, mine is all ready to go i'm going to be putting the sand, water, rock in this coming week. I am so excited I have actually sat with my lunar lights on gazing at the tank! Strange. But I just got done setting up where I want everything on the tank tonight. I'm running a Berlin HOB turbo skimmer, custom HOB 5 gallon refugium, 2 Karalia 2's, fluval 304, stealth 250w heater and current Sundial T5 HO light fixture. I painted the back of the tank a real dark blue - a bit darker than the borders here on 3reef.com. Can't wait to see your tanks progress considering were are basically starting at the same time.

tank is looking really good! i have 60 pounds of sand in my sand bed, as i was shooting for a 2-3" sandbed. The cycling process is a killer, i added a raw shrimp as well, but on week 2, week 5, and i'm almost done :D

Can't wait to see more pics

Ok. Haven't been on for awhile, what with covering everybody's shifts at work so they can go out and have fun. Anyway I have recent pictures from today that I want to share with everyone. I had been checking the levels in the tank about every other day since the 1st and everything was still reading 0. So I went to the LFS and got 2 ocellaris and a bottle of turbo start to help cycle the tank. Fish are doing great and very active. Started up the skimmer today and got it all set where it needs to be. Also checked the levels about 15 minutes ago and everything is still 0. ;D
