I am looking for a light for my 90 going to be mostly soft and lps. A db solar extreme was highly recommended and the price is right at under 300. A fellow member of rc, is selling his aquactinics for 350 with 10 bulbs ati and geismanns some of which are 6 months old. What do you suggest?

Deep Blue products are awful. The bulbs in those fixtures are useless and should be replaced right away. Making that fixture cost another $80 on top of the $300. There have been issues with some of the gfci plugs even after them "fixing" the problem. The moonlights also burn out quickly and it is impossible to get a hold of deep blue for warranty stuff. They also delay the warranty process until the warranty is up if you are lucky enough to get a hopd of them.

Buy someyhing else, you get what you pay for. Anyway, for a 90 you want at least 6 bulbs.

What do you think about Novaextreme pro 48x6 54w. It looks like I might be able to pick one up for $200 from someone that had it on a planted tank. Only issue with that is I'd have to get all new bulbs. He only has 6500ks on it. So I'm guessing that's another $130 right? What bulb combination would I want to use on that unit?

I forget if that fixture has SLRs or not. If it does, it would be worth it. new bulbs would cost 120 from reefgeek.com. As for bulb combo, it depends on what you want to keep and the color you want the tank to look.

Mostly want to keep everything except for hard corals. As far as SLRs are concerned, not sure what you mean as Im new to the hobby. If its individual reflectors that your talking about Im pretty sure that it does. I also got a poor review of this unit from an lfs, so hopefully someone that has it on here will chime in.

i had a fellow reefer that had that fixture. at first he seemed quite pleased and his corals perked up but after several months the majority of his coral was gone just like that. i would buy a nice t5 fixture and get what you pay for or get halide t5 combo

Which fixture? A friend on mine had the 36" version of the Current Nova Extreme and loved it until it's ballasts said "no more please" and crapped out. He didn't want to deal with wiring ballasts so he went with a 36" tek light from reefgeek.com.

As for SLR, yes that is what I mean.

48". The problem is, I am pretty tapped out at the moment and I am looking for something decent in my price range to support and grow the type of corals that I am looking to keep. If I had it my way I would prob spend the 800-1200 and get a high end fixture or leds. Unfortunately I just don't have that option at this moment.

then wait, you dont want to blow 400 dollars on some crap fisture just to have it break and you still end up spending over 500 dollars to replace it with a better one. it will be cheaper just to start off with a nicce one.
