As a preface, I fully understand how this is no big deal to the many ppl that live in earthquake zones - but for us here in North Jersey - a 5.9 quake is a pretty big deal. The whole office was "vibrating" and walls were shaking along with pictures swaying. Pretty intense when I have NEVER felt even small tremors here. They are evacuation buildings in Newark and Jersey City - I image those poor souls really got scared at the tops of the tall buildings. Oscillations were probably several feet at upper floors.

    WOW!

I felt it in Charlotte, NC! Playing on PokerStars when it happened! The whole table (all from US) was freakin out! I'm from Los Angeles, so I've been in plenty of quakes. If I felt it 500+ miles south, 6.0 magnitude is VERY conservative!

Wow, I thought I was loosing it. It felt like my office was shaking. It's a big building that doesn't shake though... I'm a few hundred miles north. Wonder if that's what it was.

Yeah! I jumped up and screamed, "WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!" Then I realized I was the only one home. :)

I'm from VA so I've still got some family there. Called my grandma to make sure she was OK. She thought it was her neighbor upstairs stomping around then quickly proceeded to tell me about her potted plants that got tipped over last week during a windstorm. Guess she didn't think it was too much of a big deal. Granny is funny people. Glad it wasn't a truly serious event.

I've felt tremors here in Cecil County before, but none like that one! I thought my home was gonna shake off it's foundation.

FTR, it was centered in VA, 87 miles SW of DC... but was felt from Atlanta to Boston.

Means my family wasn't far from the epicenter (Lynchburg, VA).
