well I have posted many questions and have had many problems with nitrates in my water. I was also having some GHA issues. it seems all of these problems stem from the use of tap water and not RO/DI water. I have not bought a RO/DI yet, but what I have done is setup a small nano tank that I can run with bought RO water from the store. so here are some pics. hope you like it.

Thats a really cool little tank you started there. Nice job! Have any ideas to what your livestock is gonna be? What kind of lighting are you running?

my intention for this tank is to have coral and maybe a very small fish. I haven't looked into what coral will work. the light is a cpr 24w PC. so it isnt the strongest light but should be fine. any thoughts on Coral that will work in these conditions?

No, seahorses are out of the questions, They get big, demand live food and need pristine water conditions. They are extremely hard to care for. I think you would get a kick out of a pistol shrimp and a yellow watchman goby. The fish and shrimp live in a hole together, that they have made in the sand. My friend has a watchmen goby and a pistol shrimp and I love watching them.

it is a good looking little tank, I totally like Drew 3 idea of a Zoanthid dominated nano tank
as if you look at the right sites - check out the sponsors sections - WOW every colour in the rainbow represented in a basically undemanding species as far as care is concerned

+2 - if i did a nano again that's what i'd go for - one or at most 2 complementary species of softy/polyp, extremely light on inverts and fish.

good luck. be ready for lots of little water changes.
