I find it ironic that the site is called "old hippie", yet there are 50 cals on the atv.

I would love to have a .50 cal some day. Need to get me a .50 and a ranch out west of the rockies with tons of acreage. Then I can pop mountain goats and hogs from hundreds, possibly thousands of feet away. Of course I'd eat all of it, too. And would do it with great pleasure.

Of course, most people that even own a .50 either have it just to have it and they have tons of money, or are in the military or scientific field.

Hippies are only against shooting people, not wild invasive species with no natural predators that could easily destroy native populations of many plants and animals when left unchecked.

If it's not as good as rabbit or deer I'll pass, because I don't like the taste of those either.

Hundreds or thousands of yards if not miles. LOL

Actually you can currently buy a .50 cal rifle for much cheaper then you think.

    Error

Well I have not looked in years and prices have gone up. Opps... Used to be able to pick them up for under 3k. Still you dont need a special permit or anything you can buy it just as you do any other rifle.

You can eat wild hogs. Typically we use them to mix in our deer meat and I only quarter them and take the straps. Never do I open the gut cavity and take the loins it just smells to bad and not worth it to me for ribs or the loins. Not like pork is expensive anyway. Summer time isnt a good time to hunt hogs for meat thats is for sure it would be infested with worms and things as mentioned before by the other guy.

Well, they could be, but a .50 cal won't do anything to help the case for it being edible.:uzi:

My brother hunts hogs in Florida, and he says they taste great. I know he is not a fan of anything made of venison other than my jerky, or any summer sausage.

I was about to say the same thing. We shoot hogs here all the time, and they are delicious.

Ill take that and raise you a

    *disclaimer.

These hogs are an invasive species that have been imported from other countries and are killing local wildlife through competition. Not to mention they cost anyone with land thousands every year. For example on my parents ranch in 2007 they had a population analysis done by the Texas Parks and Wildlife of our wild swine. We were estimated to have 115,000+ pigs on 27,000 acres. We were put on a sanctioned game management program by the state to eliminate 4,000 per year to keep the population stable and prevent over grazing and aggression towards our cattle, crops, wildlife, and natural forage. Pigs have 3 litters a year and have up to 4-8 every gestation. Every year our ranch takes a loss on profit of 14k-19k because of lost cattle, broken fences, lost crops, and profitable game loss for our hunters we lease land to. They really are a huge problem. Along with them and getting our ranch house broken into and ransacked every month from Illegal Immigrants, owning land in south Texas is a PITA!
