so im in the process of looking for a 50 gallon tank and a tank for a sump, but i have most of the equipment i need otherwise. Im going to run a coralife 65g skimmer, and i was deciding whether to drill the tank or use an overflow box. I could take it somewhere to get it drilled, but if i do, what is the set up for getting water into the sump?
I have an overflow box thats rated for 325 gph, so thats wayyy too slow right?what turnover rate would you recommend, its going to be a scorpionfish tank btw.

For the tank I think Petco is still having their 1 dollar a gallon sale it ends in two days I think. Can't help you with the overflow questions tbough .

What size sump are you using? 10x the sump volume is the most recommended overflow rate for maximum efficiency. Too much flow and your skimmer, reactors, etc won't be able to process the water very well. You'll need some powerheads/wavemakers for additional flow inside the DT.

well i went to pectco and the tanks look nice. verry cheap. the $/gallon sale is awesome. So im going to get a 36x18x17tall which thay call 40 gallons, but glasscages.com calls it a 50 gallon. im thinking about a 30 gallon sump then.

For what it s worth, drilling a tank is very easy! I was paranoid the first time i did it, but it worked out just fine and took just a few minutes. There are a ton of youtube videos that can help you feel more confidant before you do it. Good luck with the tank!

I would definitely drill it or have someone drill it. You will like the set up much better.
