Okay well I am hopefully starting a 53g (48x15x17) reef for Christmas, I am planning on a 20g long for the sump with a refugium. The line from the tank will first flow through a micron sock for mechanical filtration, then into the first chamber, then over flow into the refugium with miracle mud and chaeto, then into the third chamber where the protein skimmer will be and then finally overflow into the fourth chamber where the return pump is.

    Questions:
A:This is my pump, Lifegard Quiet One 2200 Aquarium Pump 581 GPH is it strong enough?
B: I was looking at this overflow CPR CS Overflow Boxes is this overpriced and should I build a DIY one? Is it hard to make a DIY overflow? Is that the right sized overflow (600gph)?

This will be enough for a pump that size but I think it is overpriced.I have never seen a diy overflow that didn't look like crap to me-maybe there are some nice ones.
Do you live near a major metro area?Craigslist is great for use stuff at a great price-heck if you're close to jacksonville, fl I've got one I would sell cheap.

So, you have this model of overflow? are you willing to ship? and how do I regulate how much water goes into the sump so my pump can keep up? will this pump still be okay with 2 feet of head pressure?

I don't have that model but they are almost all the same design.I could prob do that if it would work out.The pump regulates the flow going to the sump. The overflow box will only drain as fast as it is pump into the tank-unless you have a pump that is rated over the gph of the overflow.
