The person selling it said it was the plating variety, not the branching. Does that mean we're not talking the same thing here???
    thanks!

I'm not aware of any plating acropora.

Could mean tabling. I'm not familiar with a tabling A. valida.

Kevin man, I'm really not trying to de-rail your thread here. However, in sake of this little side adventure, I went and got the pic of what I am talking about. Maybe it's something different.

Looks like a montipora of some sort.

Someone tell my Red Planet to grow already. The frag has been encrusted for some time now. The coralites turning red on a tan background.

Yep. Water changes couldn't even begin to maintain alkalynity of calcium levels for me. Kalk couldn't even keep up through the ATO.

Being a small aquarium, it's more prone to fluctuations. Stabilizing everything provides the best possible environment for success (Stability Promotes Success). My tank also carries less calcium and alkalynity in (dry weight) than larger sustems, meaning the numbers drop more quickly.

Doing water changes each week, while beneficial, would only bring my numbers up temperorarly, before dropping again. It promotes an up and down fluction, which is not good for stability.

Having an oversized skimmer, phosphate reactor ATO, clacium reactor is every bit as important, if not more important, for a small syatem as it is for a large system.

OK, I see, you must have a lot of coral in that 20g?
