I'm doing some research for when I am ready to start stocking my tank (in about a month or so) and want to get some feedback on my stock list. It's a standard 55 gal, approx 70lbs LR, ~2.5" live sand with plenum, 14gal sump, 2 Kessil A150W LEDs. I don't know if you need all that info but now you have it anyways! 8) So without further ado, here's what I'm thinking:
    - black axil chromis
    - purple firefish
    - skunk clownfish
    - green clown goby
    - yellow watchman
    - royal gramma basslet (I read somewhere that they like "low" lighting.. what is this? Is my light too strong for this fish??)
I already have the yellow watchman in another tank and wanted to move him to the 55, but other than that I don't *need* any of these to make the final cut. And I guess he could stay in the other tank if necessary.
So any reason why these won't work or suggestions for other fish? I want all the inhabitants to be as peaceful as possible. I know the skunk clownfish is considered semi-aggressive but I feel you gotta have a clown in a reef aquarium!! ;D
    TIA

I don't see a problem with what you posted. As for the royal gramma as long as you have some sort of cave/overhang thats plenty for them. The one at my store spends about 50% of the time in the open and 50% in hiding. I take it you'll be schooling the chromis and firefish?

You stock list sounds good. Have you thought about adding a pistol to go with your goby. They are such an awesome pair to have although the pistol does bulldoze :) You may also want to consider a pair of clownfish too. I think your list would allow for that....

That is what I was thinking too. I would think about replacing him with another fish for that reason. Otherwise, I don't see any issues with the list.

I put a green clown goby in my 55g once. Never saw it again ---- Ever....

I now currently enjoy a flame angel, a bristletooth tang, 2 oscellaris clowns and a court jester goby :).

Which have all been in there for 5 months since the last addition.

For some more ideas, here is my current 55 gal stock list (in the order they were added):

Royal Gramma (mean little bugger believe it or not; should have added him last or near last!)
Tiger Wardi Goby (sandsifting goby that requires a very well established sandbed; can be short lived unless they accept prepared foods to supplement what the find in the sand)
Male & Female Lubbock's Fairy Wrasse (one of the smallest of the Fairy Wrasses)
Midas Blenny (absolutely love them! Great personality, very friendly, and very peaceful)
Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse (BFF's with the male Lubbock's)

And soon to be added will be a Hooded Fairy Wrasse, currently in QT.

My current stock is two B&W clownfish (my female is three inches, male is an inch) and an engineering goby (six inches). It seems my tank does much better when my fish stock is low. With that said, I kind of want another fish. Haha

I don't know how to make the little box quoting what each of you said so I'll try my best to respond and not confuse anyone (or myself!!)
Synthetic Breed: What do you mean by schooling them? I thought the max fish I could have in here would be about 6...? Am I wrong on that? I have read that chromis may fight amongst themselves in schools of less than 6 or 7 so I was thinking just one of those. As far as the firefish I'd love to have a couple but I don't want to crowd my tank. Would you recommend keeping one of each or should I look for a fish that does better alone?
Oldfishkeeper: Great idea! When I originally got the Watchman I just got him because I thought he was cute (I know, I know, that's not how it's supposed to be done. I've learned my lesson by now!) and didn't know that they are SHRIMP goby and could pair with shrimp. I'm definitely going to try that :)
Toby The Puffer, Marshall O and Ryan: is that because of the size of the tank or is that just how they behave? I believe you guys, especially since THREE of you are telling me no :-/, but I really like this fish. Soooo my question here is that I have a 28g and a 12g. Would it work in either of those? Or should I just give up on that fish?
    SSDennis: Thanks :)
Marshall O: thanks for the ideas, I'll check into those!
