het guys and girls this is my 55 gallon tank thred and yes i am new to salt water and im learing every day but this isnt about what i leared its about my tank so here it gose. I found what i thought was a good deal on craigs list this is what i got
    55 gallon tank
2 filters-on wisper 60 and a wisper 20 that ill hope fully mod to a fuge.
60 gallon air pump and 2 18'' buble bars (dont think this is good for corals)
2-18'' marine glo lights there alright
    mag float
about a pond of live rock (he said like 5-6 pounds)
about 65 lbs of "live sand" i dont know how much life is on it
all this for $150 he said he will thorw in a skimmer in for $30 he said it was rated for 200 gallons. (dont know how true this is with 200 gallons)

on sunday 12/14/08 i got the tank put the buble bars live rock and live sand in and about 3 gallons of water.

on munday 12/15/08 i put about anoter 2 gallons of water in and turned buble bar on.

on today 12/16/08 compleetly filed tank (no salt porbs big mistake) and turned all filters and heater on.

on friday im hoping to go to my lfs and buy some live rock 2 power heads about 5 lbs of live sand to make other sand more live and hydomoter and salt

don't use the bubble bars, i don't know of anyone who uses them. As far as oxygenation goes, the skimmer will greatly help as well as the powerheads. The sand and live rock will buffer the ph. If you want any corals you will need to upgrade your lights. I used the hang on back filters, I actually think I had a whisper 60. Make sure to clean the pads out weekly to avoid high nitrates. Make sure you cycle your tank, you will probably need anywhere from 1-1.5 lbs of live rock per gallon. You don't have to start off with that much, but it's a good goal.

What type of tank are you planning, a FOWLR or a reef? Any plan on what livestock you want?

Welcome!! It is obvious you are VERY new to saltwater so do yourself a favor and slow down and do some research before you go any further. Researching this site is a great start. You need a good solid basis before you do anything else with your tank. Only bad things and bank account drains happen quickly in sw tanks. Welcome again and good luck!
