I can't help with any die off or STN you are seeing, but for temp the easiest way to cool a tank is to have a fan blowing across the surface. You can do it either on the DT water, or in the sump. This causes evaporation though, so this should be used with an ATO with a full reservoir if possible (or auto filling reservoir like mine).

A 120mm 12V computer fan I installed in the sump of my 55 keeps it around or below 78.5°F even when the room is well into the 80's.

I have a large fan on the surface water of my sump. I should have the AC fixed within a day or two.

As for my water parameters, just about everything seem a bit off.

I've been reading up on STN and I think cutting the dead coral is in order, does anyone else agree?

I really wish I could help you on this but I know so little about SPS. Here's a bump for you!

It is a dry heat, yeah right !

    Are only sps specifically affected?

    Can you post an image.

If it's a tank issue fragging might not help.

Sorry to hear of your frustrations. :-/

Only my one piece is affected. I put up a picture a few posts back. All other coral seems okay.

Ok now I see it, when you originally posted it I did not notice the damage.

Have to rule out the usually suspects:

    AEFW?
    Swings in ALK?
    New bulbs, light acclimation?
When you changed out the PH did it change flow to that particular coral noticeably?
Anything coral near by stinging the pieces like that Monti, I have had acropora loose in that battle and I have had monti loose on the flip side.
    Have the temp come down?

Ill try my best to answer all the above.
I don't know what AEFW is.
My alk has been low for some time now.
My bulbs did play a role I think although I'm slowly bring them up.
The ph did change the flow pattern, it's a bit more powerful then the previous.
    I don't think it's coral warfare.
My AC is fixed, temp is stable.
