Thanks for the insight!! May I ask though, when you fill the QT up with SW, are you using water from your current tank that already has solid paramenters, and also some bacteria floating around?(although I understand the majority of denitrifying bacteria is infact on surfaces, like your sponge)

And so when you fill the tank, add your bacteria filled sponge to the HOB filter, do you not have to go through a spike in nitrates? Or since you're adding the sponge that is in a sense "completely cycled, full of the right combo's of bacteria for denitrifying" that you do not have to worry about the 2-4week period where your levels go up and down frequently.

I'm just not understanding why more people do not do QT tanks, if it's as easy as -- filling up your spare tank, add a heater, HOB filter, and a sponge from your fuge! :shocked2: (they need to add a "mind blown" emoticon)

I used a new batch of salt when I started it. Nothing other than the sponge was taken from the DT. As long as you do constant small water changes, there should never be a nitrate spike. It's about as easy and basic as you can get in this hobby.

Thanks again and +1 for the thread! I look forward to the frag teases you plan on posting. And when I upgrade my biocube to the 40g, I will definitely setup a small QT.

Youre welcome. Fish are next on my list. I have alot of coral coloinies from my 55, so coral isnt much a priority. Although, I will tell you that it will be mostly sps.

It will be interesting to see what happens when I add fish as far as water quality goes.
