Can someone tell me what type of lighting gives an output of 5500K or higher? I'm trying to promote the growth of coralline algae and my bottle of PurpleUp says that for best results, lighting of 5500K or higher should be used. What gives?

    Thanks in advance!

Thank you! So this is definitely adequate for promoting coralline algae growth.

    ot to do it

As Jason said, your light is fine for that purpose. I might add that high calcium will help as well as some algae nutrients. Can I say nitrogen, as in nitrates? If you think of what coralline is, this all makes sense.;D

It does make sense. However, can I overdose on calcium and do harm to the tank? Especially since I'm dosing with both Kent calcium AND PurpleUp?

Not sure what you mean by "Can I say nitrogen, as in nitrates". Please explain.

You don't need to use Purple Up and A calcium supplement together. My calcium is at over 550 which is high. Should be shooting somewhere around 450. It wont hurt though as long a s alkalinity is in check and all are doing ok.

Okay - so I don't have to use purpleup and calcium together but what about iodine and S&M. Should I dose with purpleup and iodine and S&M or will the purpleup cover all three? Also, can you please explain alkalinity to me a little bit? I believe alkalinity and ph go hand in hand, but i'm not certain.

    Thank you!

Purple-Up™ is a new pink and purple coralline algae accelerator. Since Purple-Up™ is not a fertilizer, it
does not promote the growth of nuisance algae. How does it work? Purple-Up™ uses a unique dual
method approach to coralline algae acceleration. It contains ionic calcium which immediately raises
dissolved calcium levels in your aquarium water. At the same time Super Sea Calcium™ (a 10 micron
aragonite powder derived from natural seawater) targets the live rock surface. Super Sea Calcium™
dissolves in situ; delivering calcium, strontium, magnesium, and carbonate right where it’s needed.
Purple-Up™ also replenishes iodine; an essential element for coralline algae tissues that quickly
becomes depleted in closed systems. Purple-Up™ is an excellent addition to any aquarium with stony
corals too! One bottle of Purple-Up™ replaces the typical multi product recipe for successful coralline
algae growth favored by advanced aquarists.
