I ran undergravel filter with crushed coral for a couple years without issue on a 125. I also ran 2 magnum 550 canisters with it. As long as you maintain a strict cleaning routine my nitrates always stayed around 10 or lower. Yes it is not the ideal in today's technology advancements but it will still work. You have to remember that all the tools we have today are not what they had years ago and people had saltwater setups then.

Crushed coral and undergravel filters were the standard years ago and have fallen out of favor. If the tank is going to be ripped down to move it is worth researching modern approaches to maximize success. Sounds like the OP has made up his mind though.

Thank you for your input Chris.
This is the setup i plan on keeping and maintaning.
Yea, sure "IF" i had the money i would change it on over. I dont see me spending anymore money into it than what i have to though, and ive ran this setup years on fw. I know salt is totally diffrent, but ive had this same setup in my 30gallon for over 6months and its doing great. Just cause the " Saltwater Equipment has Advanced" Doesnt mean the ecomony has. Being currently unemployed isint fun. There's not ALOT of nightshift jobs here in knoxville for me to find. Wife works 1st shift and im stuck at home with the baby. We cannot afford childcare these days. So only hope i have is nightshift. Ive been tying for the past 3months busting my ass to find a job. Ive got in over 100 applications and am registered at every temp service here in knoxville. Something has to happen soon. Right now this dad feels like **** not being able to provide for his family.
Only reason i got this setup is because of my last income tax.

Steve, I wish you all the luck in your job search. I was just trying to help. None of the things I suggested need to be very expensive. Some people use sand from Home Depot for their substrate. Best of luck to you.

Ive had sand before, Just didnt suite my taste.:-[ When i would do a 20% change with my vacuum it would suck some of the sand out and make the tank cloudy. I like this setup, cause when i change a % of the water my vacuum will get down in the crushed coral and suck everything up from the undergravel system. Yea i know my nitrates are gonna be high. BUT as long as i change every month i should stay ontop of it;D I dont mind the extra work, this has been a hobby of mine since i was 5, im pushing 30 my next bday, so im used to it.
