Hey All, I've been messing with getting a 45 gal column set up and found out its only a 37gal (stupid me I trusted a salesman). Upon more review I found that the tank is pretty badly scratched up so I'm looking for something else.

I went to LFS today and found a few options. The best of which is a 56 gal column (marineland) with a built in overflow. They are asking $450 with the stand but I think I can get them done a bit on the price since the build date is 2006. Tank looks like it's been sitting there quite a while. Does anyone have any opinion on these tanks? Would that be a good price? If not what would be a good offer to make?

I also found a really nice 70 gal oceanic with starfire glass for only $100 more but it has wood trim and won't go with the rest of the room. Great looking tank.

My current parts lists that I have for the set up is as follows:
    New wave point 4x24 light
    SWC 120
    BRS dual reactor
10 gallon sump with separate refugium (about 4 gal)
    60lbs of rock
    40lbs of sand.

Would the 10 gal sump be ok? I made it for the other tank I'm not going to use but can probably fit a 20gal if necessary.

Are there any other tanks anyone can recommend that me be a better choice? I need to have something less then 36" long and only 18"deep. Must have an internal overflow as I am tired of overflow tubes. I'd like to be able to use my 24" light if possible as it is only 1 month old.

    Hey Shawn,

With a 10G sump for that tank, you're really only looking to put equipment in there, not much else. However saying that, more water volume is always a good thing. I'd probably try that 20 in there instead - you might have enough room then for a refugium in there as well.

Thanks, I agree. I'm going down to talk to the owner of the LFS tomorrow to see about a deal. If the stand has the room I think I will try for the 20 gallon. The stand seemed pretty small so I am thinking about building one myself, I just know I don't have a lot of time to do that. If I end up with that stock stand and the 20 won't fit I will have to stick with the 10 gallon and separate fuge (big battery box).

Mods-- I'm not sure if you want to delete this post as it is pretty much a duplicate to another post I made. For some reason this one wasn't wanting to post so made a new thread.

Thought I'd post some pics of the tank, my sump and my battery box/refugium.

I ended up getting it for around $420 with tax. He wouldn't budge on the price of the tank but took a bunch off the price of the stand.

Here's a pic of the tank set up right now. The pics don't do it justice.

To make things better the wife ok'd me to replace the 20 gallon tank in the same room. The new tank makes the scratched 20 look like a toilet. To be honest it looked pretty bad already now it just looks way worse.
