debating on adding live rock from my DT in my 90 to not have to cycle this tank, any thoughts on that? kinda don't want to introduce any of the nasties I have but also wanna seed it with some pods from there too. I'm leaning towards it being a good idea.

You could stuff it with all the corals you want (assuming they're all softies or your dosing). That's no problem, really.

But I would not add any more livestock, personally. Unless it were just like hermit crabs or snails.

That, I would go ahead and do. That's what I did when I started my 10 gallon. I have lots of pods and such now, but there will still be a small cycle at first, because you added sand.

You're adding new bacteria to the tank. Anyone who says you won't have even a tiny spike in ammonia is lying (IME).

If you were to do a BB tank and use only cured LR, or only base rock you won't really have a cycle. But then that's why people add an ammonia(um?) source to the tank - so that is can become stable by the time livestock is added.

maybe, but 1 year old live rock plus live sand should be enough to counter balance any cycling issues...right?

Let me put it this way. I used all live rock (~8lbs) from my 1.5 yr old 29g when I set up my 10. The sand was 1/4" deep dry aragonite seeded with mature sand, also from my 29. I had a cycle that spiked after a few days at 2ppm ammonia. It took about 2 weeks to finally settle out. I suppose you could do a bunch of water changes in minimize this, though I don't see the need unless you are transferring livestock directly over from another tank and couldn't wait.

well i still have to order the pair,so I have time, but I really don't expect to have a cycle, I added microblift too, so I'm sure it'll be fine. I just cycled a tank in under a week with bio spira and if I had done it right I feel confident that it couldve been done in 2-4 days;)

SO in my RSM130 it would technically be possible to do a pair of yasha goby's W/ the pistol shrimp AND a pair/single hi fin goby W/ the pistol shrimp and they would get along fine?

I LOVE goby/shrimp combo's and LOVE yasha goby's as well as high fin goby's

Also does anyone know if panda goby's pair W/ pistol shrimp or are they not that type of goby?

    PS sorry to semi hijack
