Look at my other post called LED on 12 gallon jbj nanocube. Its on the second page at the bottom on this forum.

On the second page of that thread there are a bunch of links and prices.

On a 30 gallon you would probably want 30 cree 3 watt LEDs to keep whatever you want.

You would also need a heatsink, 5 buckpuck 1000ma drivers(dimmable kind is the kind i have), a potrans 24v @6.5 amp power supply.

Since I only used 6 crees on my 6 gallon it was fairly inexpensive. I only needed:
    -6 crees---$36
    -1 buckpuck 100ma driver-----$20 ish i think
    -1 potrans 24v@6.5a power supply-----$14
-1 fan---- took it off my broken computer

Since I didnt use that many LEDs i didnt need a heatsink.

this is exciting. how well do you think those would work on a 21" deep tank if you were to use say 80-100 of them in a 48" long setup?

then again if one burned out id have to rip the thing down and resolder in a new LED everytime. might be cheaper though in the long run than replacing T5 bulbs or MH bulbs.

This would be an awesome set up!!!!!!!!
It would definitely work well in a 24" deep tank. You could use optics too (probably 60 degree) to make the beam of light more direct.

If you burned out an LED all you would have to do is take your soldering iron and touch it to the solder pads that are on the cree bulbs. This would heat up the solder and you could replace it easily.

It is far cheaper to run and it last a lot longer (if proper care is taken)
