hi people, im looking to upgrade my lights..i currently have a 2 t5 setup with one white and one blue globe but i want to keep more corals and i want them to pop more. i found a 2ft 6 bulbs t5ho setup, at 24w per globe that makes 144w for my 2 foot cube tank. is this the ideal amount to keep a varying array of corals?
okay problem is this light setup comes with 6 white globes, so i will have to buy new globes and i would like people opinion on the best setup for bulbs, heres what im thinkin: 3 daylight, 2 actinic and 1 fiji purple. am i heading in the right direction?
    thanks guys

the mix of lights you are looking at should create a nice look for your tank fezzz

and its without doubt a major upgrade from the 2 tubes you currently have on your set up

will the bulbs i said create a blue look, because i was looking through a previous thread where people posted pics of there tanks and which bulbs used..i love the really bluey/purple coloured tank on the first page of that thread. not really sure how to copy the picture into this thread though. because i want to create the bluey look im after but still have the lights be ideal for coral growth. also the purple globe wont bring on algae growth will it?

It will have a nice blue tint to it yes

the purple light wont give you algae problems - lights at the red end of the spectrum are more likely to do that but

Lights dont cause algae on their own you need two other ingredients for problems with algae - nutrients and algae spores

stay on top of your water parameters, nutrient levels etc and you wont have much problem IMO

I have never heard anyone call linear fluorescent lamps globes... I have heard bulbs, tubes and lights but never globes! Learn something new everyday!!:)

With 3 day light lamps, 2 blue and the KZ Fiji Purple you will most likely have a slightly blue tank, not a rich blue that I have a feeling you want to mimic... If you REALLY want blue you will most likely need to go at least 3:2 blue to white or even moreso... You will lose some PAR as the blues don't put out quite as much but if thats the look you want sacrifices will be made.

How deep is the cube and what fixture did you find?

I agree with Dr. Frag, the fiji purple is technically a daylight bulb, so you will have 4 daylights and only 2 actinics. I have a 6 bulb fixture and run 4 blue and 2 daylight bulbs, which is a nice look IMO.

this is a link to the website with the t5 light unit im looking to buy, mind you i am in australia so the the price is in AUS$ not US. and the unit just comes with 6 white globes because i think its meant more for freshwater, but that doesnt mean it wont work nicely once i change the fluorescent globes will it??
maybe for the bluer look ill go 3 blue, 2 white and a purple.
by the way what colour are actinic exactly, are they what people refer to as blue? like i dont quite understand the whole 10000k and 20000k and so on.. so if i want a blueish look but balanced with a good spectrum for coral growth than what colours and ratings(10000k and so on) should i look for??? keep in mind one globe is going to be fiji purple for effect.

To me that fixture looks like a Tek rip off but without SLRs.... Honestly you will be wasting quite a bit of electricity and light running those lamps without SLRs.... If it was me I would keep looking...

What are slr's? The reflectors? I noticed the site didn't say anythin about reflectors so I asked and they said they do have reflectors.
