Hey guys, We were taking a look at our two LFS's stock and we saw two 6-line wrasses maybe about 1/2 inch each in a tank together. Both seemed very healthy, no discoloration on the body or eyes, and swam around easily, and were picking at the live rock in the store.

We were wondering if we bought both of them for our 55gal, would that be appropriate or not? All the sources we've read say that they are peaceful fish and that they can be kept in a reef tank easily. They did not mention if they cannot be kept in pairs or not. Thanks for the input!

--We got the LFS to take the two 4-striped damsel fish, and they are doing well in their display tank. The only things in our tank are 5 hermit crabs-- a zebra striped Hawaiian crab, 2 scarlet hermits, one blue-legged hermit, and one brown/white legged crab (no idea what that one is yet.)..... And our lovely neon goby! I love that guy, he always comes out to say hello.

I have had two in my tank for about six months and havent had any problems. At first they were both the same size, now one is larger. I'm not sure if thats a male female thing or........ They are cool fish, they dont stop moving :)

Not generally recommended to have more then 1 "lined" wrasse in tank, unless a very large one.

I would not recommend adding two.

In fact is very rare to hear someone having long term success at doing so.

May be ok for while, but could be big problems as they get older and get more territorial.

Besides two of these guys in tank may just be too stressful to each other, other fish, and yourself.

Just one, guaranteed to busy enough and have enough personality to keep everyone happy.

A definite must for any tank!

I would not risk adding more then one.. :-/

I'd worry that those damsels you just picked up might give them a beating, esp since they're only 1/2" long.

I highly recommend that you not put two together. I have a sixline that is fairly peaceful, however, he has been bothering our small clown that is currently hosting a LT Anemone..We tried to add a fairy wrasse to the tank, the sixline nearly killed it. If I would of left the fairy wrasse in over night, for sure she would have been dead in the morning. Fortunately we had another tank up and running that we could put her into.

it all depends on how aggressive your other tank mates are, smaller fish normally adapt better than older ones, and there is always the chance of one missing the other and developing stress since they been tank mates for a while.
