OK everything went REALLY good....too good.........

noticed two of the bulkheads leaked after we got everything in, they didn't leak during the trial runs...I guess they just weren't seated well enough. So, we figured we'd keep buckets under them until I could tear it all down and redo them. we tested what would happen it the power went out, yeah, should have done this on the first fill test run. Didn't think about it till it was all up and running. so, we shut off the pump and yep it keeps flowing. ok so hubby decides to go to hardware store to get a back flow preventer valve...I can't think of what it's called.....ok...we drain the tank down to where the returns(inside tank, pipes going back to tank) are, dry it all off and drain the extra water in the return pipes and the bulkheads started to leak read bad, when he went to cut the pipe to install the backflow thing.. We spent the next three hours with a bucket under and a bunch of buckets draining the tank the whole way. Got inhabitants back in the 55 with skimmer, powerhead, emperor filter. Most of the rock is in buckets with tank water. they are all ok...so far......

Now.....since I have it broke back down, each pipe, return and supply, are getting their own cut off valve and that back flow valve thing. I am going to make my own standpipes with an acrylic overflow. This is where I get confused. My tank is 25 3/4 tall inside dimensions. Can I get someone to draw this(standpipes) up with measurements and email it to me? I can build it with measurements. I just don't know how tall they should be or how much they should hang into the water. Should they be in 1" pipe? That's what the others are. Also I need to make my return to the tank pipes in 3/4" pvc, not the ones it had..they were 1" and I got no flow out of them..........HELP!!!!!!! Hubby goes out of town till Oct tomorrow working and I'll do this all myself(I know I can)

I NEED a drink! or more.....................

Cutting, I have an over flow box on my 110 that I had made at a glass shop for around $40 when I built my tank. I called and they made it the same day. I don't know if there are proper dimensions or not but mine is 12Lx10Wx11D. I had them cut the teeth too, 3/4 cuts. I then put it on top of the pipes with bulheads. The didfference though I have two pipe(return and intake) to stabalize it, but I didn't have to drain the tank.

Also if the intake is load you can try putting a sponge in for a prefilter, slows down the wate a bit and less noise. Temp fix anyway.

I would have to drive an hour or more to get to a decent glass shop. I have plenty acrylic and our lhs is retiring, so he's giving me what he's got left..... Gonna try to work a dremmel and some pipe fittings out of him too....;) You know us reefer's are a broke lot.......

I'm looking at this end cap for a stand pipe. Anyone here us one of these? Hofer Gurgle Buster Construction

I'm thinking about making one and I've been looking at many standpipes discussions on the web. I CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ha, I just remembered I saved that link in "my favorites" a while back. That's the one I'll probably be using too eventually.

I emailed the guy to see if he'd explain the part about "Adjustment 2, Air Injection Height". I can't tell ya how many times I've read it, and it still makes no sense to me.

Now, wasn't that $10 on the diy standpipes worth splurging?
