I agree. people should stay out of the ocean for different reasons completely. because it smells really salty and makes your skin feel all nasty when you get out. I hate being in ocean water. oddly enough. ;D;D

I snorkeled with a bunch of nurse sharks once and another time with some Rays that were massive.

I probably should not have done this, but I grabbed a dorsal fin of a swimming shark and it carried me around for a while...

Not that nurse sharks are harmless ... but I felt relatively unafraid ... OK, I lie, I was terrified. But it was quite awesome.

Yea, I'd feel bad for the shark afterward. Nobody deserves that kind of treatment. ::)

What they dont tell you is that there's a 3rd aspect of the fight or flight response. Fight, flight, or poop as a deterent.

in the first half second i thought you were saying that box jellyfish did this. i laughed.

i do agree with Jwin and i did technically swim with shark (granted that shark was a reef shark and the aquatic version of a golden retreiver) and hold that sharks are no reason to avoid water, but i still have to admit that i did flinch a bit the second i let go of the boat and jumped in. you hear all the stories and you try to tell yourself that its all hysteria and statistics are on your side (more coconuts kill hawaiians than sharks) but when i'm floating on the surface and cant see below i was definitely a little twitchy. i hated that. once i was under and could see what was happening i was much better.

Agreed. Plus, I was told that shark attacks occur mostly on the surface or near the surface. So as a diver being 45-50 feet down in the same level as the sharks, I didn't feel that threatened by it. I will say, seeing 3-5 sharks come out of the blue and circle around you for a while, then disappear back into nothingness was a very very sureal. Or eerie. You know what I mean. It wasn't scary, but it was just weird.

This is a pic of a shark circling my dive buddy and I. They were Caribbean Reef sharks 6-8 feet long. I took this pic with a super el cheapo water camera. :)

I love sharks, my reef trips aren't complete unless someone sees a shark.
