I am converting my fluvial 7.9 gal tank to salt and am getting live rock, sand, and water from my brothers 75 gallon tank that has been up and running for a while now. My question is since I'm getting it all from a setup tank will mine have to cycle still?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    Welcome to 3reef.

I would error on the side of caution and be prepared for a cycle and not stock the tank for a couple weeks out or more. Water hold very little beneficial bacteria, live rock will be excellent as long as it's kept moist and not out of the water too long. A hand full of of established sand is all that is needed. I would get fresh sand and just seed it with sand from your brothers tank.

most likely a mini cycle, the cycle is not the condition of the water but more the surfaces the water is in contact with that hold the beneficial bacteria, this includes sand, rock, and the sides of the tank.

Thank the both of you for the fast replies. I got my girl a 2G already set up salt tank for her birthday with an anome and clown fish. I posted about it on another forum and they flipped...so I'm trying to give them a bigger tank so they won't die on me

What kind of anemone? Unless it's a maxi mini, a 7 gallon tank isn't going to be any better for it. Or a fish.

Tank size depends on type of anemone. Also do you plan on any future additions? If so please list as well as what type of anemone you have so someone can provide you with a good minimum tank size.

Idk what type it is but it seems to be doing ok at this point but I'm guessing that will change relatively soon

If your in the market for a bigger tank, wait till petco rolls around their talk sale and pick up a 55 or a 40B. Or watch craigs list and see what pops up. I agree that small of water volume means swings in temp,sg,cal,mg,ph will be very hard to combat. Not impossible just not easy. and thats a nems nemesis. lolI think you should just upgrade to at least a 40B.. 55 if you can.
