i would like to do a 70 gallon flowr tank.

    Red/Orange Angler (Antennarius sp.)
    Leaf Fish (Taenianotus triacanthus)
Red Rooster Pygmy Waspfish (Hypodytes rubripinnis)

im wondering if these fish will work together and what other fish i could put in with them.

i think those + a small max 7 inch lion fish would make an awesome display! maybe a frogfish if you have heavy amounts of filtration on the tank!

it would probably be wise to add a good quality skimmer.

that would be good, and a skimmer of course. run carbon along with it too. actually in a fowlr i think with these sorta fish a large canister filter would be more efficient. we normally have sumps for reef tanks. i havent kept a fowlr in a long time so if im wrong someone correct me.

I would recommend against a canister filter with those kind of fish. They are all known to be messy eaters. The more chunks that get sucked up and sit in the canister the more youre gonna turn it into a nitrate filter unless you have a more steady mantenance plan for it. Granted nitrates arent as big of a concern like they are with a reef tank but you run the risk of definitely posting some high numbers with a canister.

With a FOWLR you can also think about some macro algae for both the fuge & the DT. Some ulva or chaeto in the fuge for natural filtration, and some halmeda or codium in the DT. I say those too cause while they arent the biggest natural filtering macros they are decently slower growers, easy on the eyes, and easy low maint/ low assexual risk macros.

You definite recommendation is to have 2 x the size on a good quality skimmer. ie a 150gal or better.

Another option is maybe like a dual reactor from BRS for carbon & GFO just to help keep things low & algae at a reduced concern.

You would also want to consider a rather large snail supply from over at reefcleaners to handle all the mess food & deterius. Sure some of the snails will become casualties but they are cheap and easy to replace. lol.

a sump would trap waste matter as good as a canister. i dont have much experience in this area but a sump is biological filtration for a reef tank. whereas a fowlr is kinda just about the fish and clear water. which a canister filter would provide. with those large fish it will put major strain on any filter.
