I'm having a pickle of a time picking out a skimmer. Part of me wants an insump design, part of me out of sump design so I can have a larger fuge. :-/ I will be building my own 29g fuge, DT is a 72g BF. I'm between any HOB but i like Eshopps HOB up to 100g skimmer. The HOB skimmer would definetly be hung on the fuge not the DT. The skimmer i have been looking at the longest is the Reef Octopus DNWB-110 Recirc. Would the Octo be a better choice as far as quality and the possibility that it can still be used outside my sump? The octo specs say it needs plumbed directly to my overflow or a feed pump. Which would be easier to do plumb it or feed pump it? The feed pump seems that it would just add extra unnecessary noise and elctricity. If it was plumbed, my return pump is a hydor 740gph. Would that be enough water flow to the skimmer? Any and all input is appreciated. This is my first reef tank and i'm sooooo taking my time getting everything correct on it. Eventhough i know, i'm still gonna wish i did other things with it when i get it running. Ohh and there will be pics Luna.;)

The octo plumbed direct to your overflow would be a great way to go. Every bit of water that goes to your sump will pass through your skimmer and there will be no feed pump to cause heat.

I use a 10g tank for my sump. I have an AquaC Remora Pro HOB skimmer hanging on the side of my sump. Maximizes my water volume in my sump.

I would go with an aqua medic turboflotor. It can be used either in sump or HOB. It sounds perfect for your situation. And they are pretty good skimmers as well ;)
