Our tank is only 2 months old, we are new with the saltwater tanks but have really gotten into it and want to put time and money into it. Right now we have gobbies, blennies, Damsels, Clown fish, sea stars, emerald crabs, hermit crabs, snails and will be adding 2 blue tangs and one yellow tang later this week and weve heard they get ich easily. Would purchasing a UV Sterilizer help to prevent ich and other dieases? Id rather invest the money into the Sterilizer than lose my more expensive fish. What are your suggestions and if this would be a good thing to purchase what Kind/Brand/Size? Thanks for your time!

Congrats on the tank. I don't know if it's a good idea to have 3 tangs in a 75 though, maybe if they were small. Good luck!

I have a UV but it's more a supplement than anything because it will only kill free-floating parasites. I own a Current-USA 25w and found that my water became much cleaner after running it for a while. Mine is setup for parasites with its slower flow rate. The best way to prevent ich is QT the fish and good diet. Also, I think some people might chime in suggesting 3 tangs in a 75gal might be too much for your tank size. Good luck!

Ya, the 2 blue tangs will be tiny .5-.75 inch and the yellow tang will be a little bit bigger. We will most likely get another large aquarium for our game room so we might move one out. The comments are really helpful and we appreciate all of your help and suggestions! Keep um coming!
So would it be worth getting the UV Sterilizer to help?

Personally I think it's worth it, but that's just me. Plus, I don't have LR or corals, so your situation may differ if you do. I'm assuming you have a FO tank? It made my water clearer (bacteria) and I know at least something is helping fight parasites, even if only a little.

Are you going to QT those tangs? If not, just make sure to have a really good diet and keep water quality pristine. Have fun!

Yes, it might be worth it. But do not run it 24/7
But I would not get 2 blue tangs. If the tangs are small, you can keep two tangs in a 75, sure. But not two of the same species. Chances are, one will end up dead rather shortly.

We have Live Rock and some small corals and eventually want to get more. Is the Coralife UZ Sterilizer 9 watt turbo twist 3x a nice one to get? I know that brand quite well but am open to others.

the size of the actual fish is not the only issue, you have to take into consideration that that tangs are high level swimmers and they need alot of room to swim around. when suggestions are made for a perticular fish, example minimum tank size ect. theres usually a reasonable explanation of that recommendation. a small 3 inch tang is going to need a lot more swimming room than other fish much larger because of the need for swimming room.

Thank you all for your comments as I have decided to change my order from 2 blue tangs and one yellow tang to just one blue tang. Would one blue tang be ok in a 75 gal tank or should I cancel that one too?

As far as the sterilizer goes, most of them do not have enough flow to do anything meaningful. By the time all of the tank water cycles through, if there are parasites in the water, they have already reproduced again. I thing proper quarantine procedures are much more effective.
