75 gallon lighting

so im about to order a 75 gallon fish tank and i wanted to know what you guys and girls think would be best for lighting? MH (watts), T5, VHO. i am going to make my own canopy so retrofit isnt a problem. i want to keep zoo's, acans, records, and maby some harder corals like goniopora and other sps.

A 6 X 54W T5HO light will let you have whatever you want in the tank. Price and electricity will probably be less than MH and the heat way less.

 

If you want the shimmer effect, go with MH. You could do 2 250w and they would be great. One misconception is the extra electricity MHs use. A watt is a watt. If you have 500w of T5 and 500w of MH they both use 500w, the difference is in the ballast. You'll use an extra 5-10% depending on the ballast. Some ballasts are very efficient such as the Galaxy ballasts by SLS, I believe they are 98% efficient. T5s will probably be cheaper and they do run cooler so if that's a concern then I would consider going with T5s. ATI just came out with a more economical fixture that has some really nice features. A 6 bulb fixture would work very well for your application.
