When you say 3200 GPH do you mean combined or you have more then one powerhead that only produces 3200 GPH?

I have 4 x 1,600 gph JBJ Oceanstream, but only two at a time are running due to the wavemaker. It cycles them.

My return flow is pretty low, maybe another 150 gph.

So technically I have enough power but I just need a wavemaker to stimulate the oceans water flows?

I think the wavemaker is a good idea, but I don't know that it's a requirement.

The important thing is to place the powerheads so you have good flow with minimal/no deadspots. In doing that, you'll probably have high flow areas and low flow areas. You can put the "easier" (not necessarily easy) SPS in the high flow zones. Keep in mind, I wouldn't try LPS until the tank is 4-6 months old, and SPS until it's 8-9 months old. Your tank will go through many little cycles and stages as it ages. You need everything stable before trying the "easy" SPS.

I think BMX's tank is "older" in that he's converting from a FOWLR to "reef" - hope I'm correct on that....

Yes my tank is about 2 years old so it should be able to hold anything as soon as I get the proper lighting.

My only thoughts are you have a mix of some very peaceful fish and some rather aggressive fish. Typically you want to have a tank with either all peaceful (add semi-aggressive last) or aggressive fish.

Christmas was good to my tank. I now have an RO/DI system and the light will be coming January 14th so coral will be coming soon as well :) Now it gives me time to make my changes to my sump and refugium. Photos will be up soon
