Ive been reading that site as well. The only reason to have a lower alk is so the calcium doesnt drop but my calcium is too high so should I allow it to try to drop my calcium or will the corals drop the calcium on their own?

 

Skimmers normally have a break in period and I'm assuming this wouldbe part of that.

 

Ok thank you. It is the break in period. Ive followed the directions so far. It is skimming like crazy. Tank mustve been dirty for having no skimmer for 2 years.

 

Did the test wrong yesterday. MY magnesium is actually 1600.

 

so now it makes more sense because it is common for mag to be 3x the size of calc.

 

Well that makes more sense, but why are calc, alk, and mag so high? Are you dosing? If not, then my guess is your salinity is actually a lot higher than you think!

 

I am going to get new testing equipment for my salinity and see if your right.

 

This is my plumbing. The photos are in order. My LFS showed me how to make those siphon pvc pipe things. Does anyone else use them? Its goes 37 gallon refuge to 75 gallon Dt to 10 gallon skimmer sump to 10 gallon sump with misc equip and back to the 37 gallon refuge.

As of right now I dont know if I trust it so I might drill the 37 and first sump. Can I please get opinions and help and if this is safe.

 

Is there a trick to getting the maxi jets to stay on the tank. Everytime I turn them on within an hour they fall off the glass.
