The 4x4's have been notched out so that the 2X4's ride the notch flush with the top of the 4X4. Don't know if it will make a difference but I guess I'll put corner braces in at 45's from 4x4 to 2x4.

I was just looking at the color difference in different bulbs. I'm really liking the Pheonix 14K. But getting ahead of myself there...

That will give you peace of mind with the 45* braces. That is a really solid design for the stand.

Pretty productive day. Got the stand set up for the sump and the sump in it. Got the hole cut and the 3/4" Loc-line return installed. I cut the old bulk head out of the over flow and installed a new one glass-holes style. Thread length cut in half, nut inside the skimmer box, 90 outside the tank with a piece of rigid tubing inserted in a hole drilled in it for tuning.
Corner braces wouldn't let the sump into the stand and once it was in I couldn't get them back on so I guess I'll skip them. My wife is freaking out but I think it's built well enough that not much weight will be absorbed by the 2x4.
I had pics of it all but must not have save them to the card in my phone....

Looking at the stand...its plenty strong. You could remove the front center brace (not sure if you did) and not add new bracing. Trust me...it's not needed on that stand.

I would agree, if it were 2x6's spanning the length.

I'm no structural engineer I'm confident it will be fine with just the rear center brace removed. The weight should be transferred from the span to the corner posts. Thanks everyone for helping me make up my mind.

I got it all set up, got the scape I like and got in a rush to begin filling it and get pictures posted. At about 15 gallons I realized that the water level is about 3/4" different from end to end....

got in such a hurry to get done I forgot to check level. Drain, shim and pics tomorrow.
