I want to buy this fish but right now he is living in a tank that is 82 degrees. My tank at home is only 77. What should my route be?

raise your tank up to 80 over like 2 days then
when you get him make sure to float the bag lights out to kill stress etc
then once he is in the tank take it back down over 2 days to 77

edit: or is your tank hotter at anytime of the day?

kind of overkill thinking i guess

that is not such a major change some tanks change that much in a single day but you would need to temp acclamate in the bag befor you start to acclamate it to your water

Normal acclimation should be fine. I float mine in the bag for 20 minutes, adding a little tank water in between.

Well I was planning on quarantining him first. For some reason I am deathly afraid of dipping and QT because there is smaller margin for error. But I need to do one or the other.

Well if you are going to QT it just match the temp in your QT to the store and raise it while its in there. In reality though 4 degrees is nothing. I have brought many fish home from stores over an hour away Im sure there temp drops quite a bit in that time then goes right back up to get into the tank.

If he's a healthy fish should I just fresh dip him then put him in my DT? I am scared to QT him because the only tanks I have for this would be a 25g high or a 5g...

After the experiences Iv had lately I would fresh dip him then QT him. Its not worth it to have to pull your entire DT apart just to catch all your fish and put all of them in the QT. I just did that for the second time in a month tonight. Im setting up a dedicated QT before I buy anymore fish.

The 25 for sure. Specially if you are planning on leaving it bare bottom and doing water changes to keep water quality good. This will give you more room for error.
