lol, wow... that's somewhat creepy. i've had the tank up and running for about 5 weeks. and i'll save up $58 for a different test kit, or just buy a phosphate refil. i'll check out the water machine though. and i'll stop using bottled water!

I'll be sure to get that other one deleted.

A test kit won't cost $58, or doesn't have to. I have an API, they're not the best, but they work fine I think. Here's one that has the phosphate test Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Reef Master Test Kit and it's $19.99.

Did you happen to look at your brand of bottled water on that chart in the one link?

Also adding 3 fish right away after your tank cycled is not a good idea, you really should add one at a time about a month or so apart. Most tanks are just getting ready to be able to have livestock at 5 weeks, but they're all different, in other words, it probably wasn't cycled enough when you added the fish. Can't do anything about that now though.

I'm no pro or anything but I've been fighting the hair algae for a few months now. There are so many things that can cause it, but I would start by doing water changes with decent water. Just so you know the RO water from the store is just okay, it usually and most always contains nitrate and phosphates. I finally bought an RO/DI which I should have done a long time ago.

Search around on this forum for other hair algae posts and you'll learn a lot reading them...

Lol I'm by far no expert. I just am in the midst of a hair algae attack too!
