A local seller has a 90gal AGA tank and stand for sale. I'm a new hobbyist, and I'm assuming from what I have found so far is that the drain is in the corner. For a 48 inch long tank, that does not seem efficient.

Is a corner drain the best or worse? With this kind of investment, I want to find the right one, and not the cheapest one.

My thanks for your time and care,
    Moose

I have a 90g tank with a corner mega-flow overflow system with a Magdrive 18 and life is good. Great tank, love it.

$500 OBO. Not sure what else comes with it. Since the advertisement did not state hood, etc... I'm assuming tank and stand only.

Online stores are averaging $570 for tank and stand, and possibly hood and freshwater lighting. (as pictured).

Seems like a reasonable price for a never-used tank.

Do you know if the tank is drilled? I would offer less.

Not sure if it's drilled or not. Since the seller stated it was a reef tank, I would expect it has the overflow. Sorry for not providing enough details to answer everyone's questions.

Yes, I was thinking of offering $400, but even $400 for a tank that may not be good is not worth the $$$.

So, from most questions, I'm getting the impression this is a reasonable tank to consider. I wasn't prepared to go to 90gal for a tank due to the expense for additional hardware required to operate this size of a reef.

I had first thoughts of a nano (29 gal biocube, 34gal RedSea 130D). But, I am somewhat educated with saltwater tanks to understand that a larger tank can be more stable. After some initial discussions of the smaller tanks on this forum, I figured larger would ultimately be a better choice.

That lead me to 55gal, 75gal, and then I see this advertisement for a 90gal. Perhaps I'm biting off more than I can chew, as papa moose would say.

My thanks for all who replied. Even though this is a potential for reasonable pricing, it may be too big of a tank. (I can hear it now - "It's never too big", "Whaddya mean, too big?") :loco:

Personally, I don't think it is too big. It just seems pricey to me. I know it's new, but with all the good used equipment available today, eh, just me.

To give you an idea. I recently got a 150G with stand and sump for $200. I can get 75s and 90s everyday around here for 100-200.

If you really want to go brand new then, that is a fantastic deal.

the best piece of advice you'll get around here as a saltwater newbie is 3Reef's slogan
    "Go slow, let it grow."
good luck and post pics soon :)

A 90 is a really good size, I like it as the dimensions are basically the footprint of a 55 but has the extra 6" width that gives you a lot more room to aquascape properly without having to pile the rock against the back wall causing other issues with water movement and proper flow.
By the way, what part of maryland are you in?

PS. check out my 90 build in my sig file

JonJon- Those are great prices you quoted. I have been looking at craigslist in Maryland, and I cant find anything I really want. Most tanks are much larger, and the ones that are in my size are either too tall (I want a long tank, and I know I want maximum amount of lighting to reach my corals, so shallow is better IMO). I don't have to have new, *but, I dont think I'll have too many worries with new. If you know of an alternate resource for used tanks, I'm listening.

Telgar- I looked at your build pics. Your aquascape is beautiful! I saved that image of your rock formation because I want to replicate that design. I also learned about the egg crate before and your pics helped describe it perfectly. Your sump design is pretty clear too, so it's obvious you have a great deal of experience. I live in Sykesville (Carroll County).
