am looking to get my new tank built soon and was looking to have it done with an external beananimal type overflow.
however, as well as my sump, i also have a remote DSB/refugium tank that will need a seperate feed.

pretty quick drawing but hopefully it makes some sense, could i have the full siphon feed my sump and the open chanel feed my fuge/RDSB tank?
(the yellow line is emergeny overflow and the pink is the return.)
was also thinking of having the extra drain on the back glass for water changes. are there any problems with that?

any help or suggestions would be appreciated

It looks good to me. This is very similar to how I did mine. the only difference is your fuge would be separate.

I will have an extra bulkhead for draining the tank entirely(if I need to move) Meanwhile, automatic water changes will occur in the sump.

What size are your overflow and return lines?

That's fine. I have the same size plumbing.

The way you have that now is going to cause a sand storm in your fuge.

I would suggesting putting a street L (90* turn) on the end of that line and have it point at a wall. This should diver the water so it won't mess up the sand.

I would also suggest raising the water level for your bubble traps and return.

    The rest looks good.

oh awesome, i think anything bigger than 1" would have stood out a bit too much.
the sump was already bought like that for about infinity more $ than it should have cost so am gonna see how it goes as is to start with.
if there will be enough flow for a sandstorm i think i'll look at adding a tee and run some of the flow back to the skimmer chamber.
but at least it seems like the concept will work out somehow and i dont need to change to a different overflow or add more holes.
will hopefully talk to my LFS about ordering it tomorrow :) thanks!

Glad I could be of help. I assume the tank is a custom order from your LFS?
