Hello my fellow 3reefers. I've had a separate build thread on this site for a few years now, a 40 breeder reef. I figured it was time to go ahead and upgrade. I grabbed a killer deal on Craigslist and resold a few things I bought in the package, so I literally got all of it for free. Gotta love Craigslist!

So I'll be moving everything from my 40 into this new tank, including all the fish and what not. The stand for the 90 corner is literally taller than my 40 gallon stand and tank combined lol. I'm going to have to get a stool to get inside the tank.

There's the tank there here's the stand. I ended up sanding, painting, and adding door handles to it. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1394806242.938694.jpg ImageUploadedByTapatalk1394806258.006386.jpg

I'm painting the back of the tank a darker blue today, then clean up the sump and skimmer. I'll post more pics and specifics as I go along!

fill that tank with vinegar and water and it will clean up nicely. It is glass correct? If so razor blade the glass to get the calcium off(of course stay away from the seams). As far as the overflow that will be a bit more work to get calcium off since you do not want to use razor blade on that.

Have done the vinegar and water technique multiple times and works like a charm(matter of fact just did it on my 30 that I am transitioning to a QT).. done in 1 day and looks new after running 6 years

Congrats. Have fun cleaning that thing :) Don't short cut the cleaning, you'll mad at yourself later on if you do... I've done it before.

I bet you'll be enjoying the extra room.

There it is all in place. I ended up sanding the stand down the previous owner had made himself, then painting it black. It's a beast of a stand though. I'm 6ft and the tank/stand is a few inches taller than I am all set up. Cleaning the inside of the tank wasn't too bad, just needed a little TLC. I painted the back of the tank as well. I'll be plumbing it up and getting water and what not in here in the next few days!!

Thanks guys. Does anyone have any recommendations on how I should go about moving all of my livestock into the new tank? Im not sure if I should move everything in at once using all the water from my old tank, then fill the rest up with new SW. Or I could set up the 90 minus the light I'm using, let it cycle for a few weeks, then start to move stuff over.. Any thoughts?

I chose the cycle from scratch with my 90 upgrade. I'm still in the transfer stage. used about a cup of sand and 5 pounds of rock from my current 55. The cycle took about 2 weeks to pass and now starting to transfer coral and adding new fish that I wanted to place in addition to the ones I have currently. In a way I'm using the 90 as a quarantine tank before I add my fish I have now.

Man it's looking good! You got it all cleaned up nicely. My advice is to move everything at once. Make yourself up a bunch of new saltwater to use later. Siphon out water to fill two buckets, fish go in one, corals in the other. Move your rocks over to the new tank. If you want to replace your sandbed now is your chance. If you want to keep your sandbed try to siphon off more water into buckts before removing the old sand and moving it over. I would suggest not using the water that is left over in the old tank after removing the sandbed from it, it's going to be nasty. Fill the tank with the new water you made (with correct temp). Put the corals and coral water in new tank. Put fish in new tank and dump fish bucket water.

I personally don't see the need to go through an additional cycle. Everything you need, you already have. If you are adding a bunch of new live rock that needs to be cured that's a different story. Or if you are wanting a fresh start with new rocks.
