According to this picture, your intake and skimmer will be in the same compartment and the return in the middle right? Well, if you copy this drawing exactly, the evaporation will take place in the return section and your refugium will soon be isolated from flow and be standing water. maybe i'm missing something....

I guess I left out that the fuge will be fead from the return pump and overflow back into the return section.

May I suggest for your OF, you have the line split to the skimmer & the fuge, rather than going just to the skimmer?

With water going to the skimmer & the fuge, apposed to just the skimmer then the return, your return will be less likely to go dry(sinse there will be multiple sources of water).

Then just have your pump go straight up to the DT?(if it's not too late)

I am not sure if you have read about the bean overflow system but there will be three drains going into the skimmer section or maybe 2 in skimmer and 1 in return. With the set up I have there should never be a time when water it not flowing to dry the pump out because if one of the pipes gets clogged then one of the other two will take over, and if two of the pipes get clogged the third one will take over always keeping up with the flow.

As far as spliting the lines go it can be done with my drain system but it is not recomended since it would just add more valves and unknowns to the plumbing situation.

I did not know about the bean OF with 3 lines, but that's similar to the herbie. So I understand. Sounds good then. Sorry about that.

If you know about the herbie method then it is very similar just with an additinal line.

i built my sump the exact same way as yours is going to be. working out perfectly.
i would have the drain fill the fuge tho instead of the return filling it.
my drain is split one into the skimmer and one into the fuge with a ballvalve.

build looks like it going along great btw!!

    Update 8-10-10

Well I have something to update about finally not too much though since the blue backing didn't turn out as well as I had hoped I started the process of getting the old blue paint of and ready for the new black paint.

I started by trying to just use some paint remover but since I did about 10 coats lets just say it swirled the paint around. So to get the majority of the paint off I went with used a scrapper and a razor blade and being carful throughout.

Here is the starting of the work.

Here is some of the left over mess that I vacuumed most of it up.

Here are some shots of it all clean and ready to go I used to alcohol to get any paint residue off.

I then started the process of getting the back taped up and ready to go for round two this time with a satin black paint below.

Here are some shots of the area where I painted it on my back porch lots of ventilation people. You can see the top where the paper is cut out into a rectangle I forgot to tape the holes for the pipe and almost started to spray the back before my wife told me so good think otherwise I would have an aquarium filled with black paint particles.

After this I wanted to get my sump ready for some glass baffles so I outlined where all the baffles will be to make sure everything would fit and of course I wouldn't have good thing I did this. Since I added to the gate valve mod on the protein skimmer it makes it about 2" wider and there for the output would be resting on top of the first baffle if I had left the baffles in the original places so I moved them over to make it all fit nicely without being cramped.

So with the new changes made to the sump it will give me 13.25" in the skimmer section and in the fuge section leaving about 6" in the return section. I will have to do the math later to figure out the gallons in each compartment.
