I just bought a 90g acrylic tank last night. It is 4ft long, 2ft tall, and 18in width. I go the tank for $100! It was filled when I got there and I've had it full all night so I got a great deal. The thing is, I have a 30g glass I'm using as my sump. I need a return pump, overflow box, tubing, and what else would I need? I've never done a sump, the tanks I've had either had them built in or I used hanging filters with a canister also. So anyone willing to give me some setup help? I've been doing saltwater for a year so I'm new still and would loveee some expert help! Thanks guys.

Why not drill it for an overflow?

To be honest, I'm not exactly sure how to do that.. I feel like that be complicated and wouldn't it cost more?

It is sooo easy. Just go to youtube and search drilling a glass tank. Are you positive that your tank is acrylic? If so that should be even easier to do. I think in the long run you will regret it if you dont drill it. There are tons of pic on here about sumps etc. Take your time with setting up your tank and most importantly have fun!! Good luck.

I don't plan on having it running till the new year and yes, 100% positive it's acrylic. You think showing a couple pictures of the tank would help give some idea of where and how to drill if I go that route?

Nice, be very careful when you're cleaning it so as not to scratch it up. Do you plan to set it up peninsula style?

Depending on your level of handiness, drilling that should be no problem. You'll need to either get an overflow kit from somewhere like gl*******s or build one yourself, which is also not that difficult.

Edit.... LOL, the asterisks are auto-entered apparently. The overflow vendor in question rhymes with a common euphemism for a total jerk or where poop comes out. :)

You can def. use the 30 for the sump, you probably won't need to drill that though. I'd drill the dt for sure (you certainly don't have to). As far as drilling acrylic goes, I'm not certain exactly what type of drill bit to use but I'm sure it's pretty easy to figure out via google. I do know you have to really keep it cool though or else it'll get all melted and seize up on you.
