Thanks. Getting more into fuzzy sticks but still pretty happy with the tank.

WOW, Its been a LONG time since I've updated. Had a few setbacks with the tank. LONG story short I started dosing a few months ago and didn't realize I was testing with an expired reagent in my hanna checker I purchased. BIG mistake. I lost most of my coral. I've since stopped dosing and kinda let things chill out. Most of the SPS AND LPS is gone. I'm in the process of plumbing it into the basement. I've also decided dosing isn't for me. I picked up a used K2R calcium reactor and ordered a new Apex. Going to get serious here. Fish are good, Added a few since the last update and lost a few so I'm about evened out. Second set back is I'm battling cyano. This stuff is the most ignorant stuff on the face of the planet. If anyone's got some tips that would be AWESOME. I'm great on flow and I've been trying to get back into weekly water changes. My RO unit needed new filters and I've picked them up and have gone back to making 0 TDS water. To be honest, the maintenance just got away from me.

welcome back! sorry to hear about your losses but I think all of us have had periods when the maintenance gets away from us. Looking forward to seeing your updates now that you're back in the game :)

Thanks Fish! I just refreshed my clean up crew. They've been busy for the last day or so. I'm thinking about pulling most of the coral out of the tank, Moving it over to the frag system, scrubbing the Cyano off the rocks with a tooth brush and doing a LARGE water change. Hardest part is the mixing station is in the basement. Frag tank does great cause its easy, no buckets to lug up the stairs.

I can NOT WAIT to get the two systems tied together. I should be around 200 total gallons. I'm taking a week off in May to do that.

Sorry for your troubles. I know the feeling-- my first reef attempt a few years back ended in a similar disaster. Once it reached that point, I tore it down, sold what little livestock I had left, and went FW for a couple of years.

For the cyano, it will help a lot to vacuum out all you can while removing water for a water change. Cyano stores excess phosphate for future use and will release it back into the water when it finally starts to die off.

Start running GFO or something similar (if you don't, already) to help remove phosphate from your system. Also, keep vigilant with routine maintenance.

Once regrowth has been reduced, a 3-day blackout should finish it off.

WELL All good things come to an end. Gonna be making some changes ... NO, I'm not getting out of the hobby. I'm UPGRADING. Caught a sweet deal on a 93 cube I got from a fellow reef club member whose wife wouldn't let him set it up. Going to pick it up tomorrow. Here's a pic to drool over for now [IMG]
